Fake Job Advertisements in Pakistan – 10 Signs of a Job Scam

Table of Contents
Every month, thousands of young people in Pakistan lose money to fake job advertisements on Facebook, WhatsApp and even newspapers. The scammers know that jobs are hard to find, so they use hope and urgency to trick job seekers. This guide shows you the 10 clear signs of a job scam, how to verify any advertisement, and what to do if you have already been cheated.
Golden rule: A real employer never takes money for giving you a job. In genuine government recruitment you only pay the official application or test fee, and that goes to the department or its authorized testing service through an official bank challan or portal, never to a person.
Why Job Scams Are Increasing in Pakistan
Government and overseas jobs attract lakhs of applicants for a few hundred seats. Scammers take advantage of this competition by creating fake pages, fake offer letters and fake "recruitment offices". They copy logos of real departments, so a fake ad can look very real at first glance. If you want to see how a genuine advertisement looks, read our guide on latest jobs in Pakistan and compare the details.
10 Signs of a Fake Job Advertisement
They ask for money before the interview or appointment
"Registration fee", "file charges", "security deposit" or "uniform fee" before you get a job is the most common scam. A real employer pays you, you do not pay them.
They guarantee selection or promise a job through "sifarish"
No one can guarantee a government job. Selection depends only on the test, interview and merit of the recruiting department. Anyone who says "100% job guaranteed" or "seat fixed" is lying. Even a genuine processing service like JPS never guarantees selection, and we clearly say so on our disclaimer page.
Payment is requested in a personal account or mobile wallet
Official fees are deposited through the bank challan, portal or account mentioned in the advertisement, and the account title matches the department or testing body. If someone gives you a personal JazzCash, Easypaisa or bank account number, stop immediately.
The ad is only on WhatsApp or Facebook with a free email address
Government departments publish ads in newspapers and on their official websites, and their emails end with .gov.pk. If the only contact is a WhatsApp number or a Gmail/Yahoo address, be careful. Always search for the same advertisement on the department's official website before you apply.
The salary is too high for too little work
"Earn Rs. 80,000 monthly from home, no experience needed" is a trap. Check the pay scale for the post. If the offered salary is far above what the same post normally pays, it is probably fake.
Important details are missing from the advertisement
A real ad has an advertisement number, post names, qualification, age limit, last date and application method. If these are missing or vague, treat the ad as suspicious. You can also use the age calculator to confirm that you really meet the age limit before you spend any money.
They create pressure and urgency
Messages like "only 3 seats left, pay today" are designed to stop you from thinking and checking. A genuine recruitment has a fixed last date given in the ad, not a personal deadline from an agent.
They ask for sensitive information too early
Never share your OTP, ATM PIN, card number or online banking password with anyone, for any reason. Be careful even with documents like CNIC copies, because they can be misused. Share them only with a verified employer and only when really needed. Learn more about your identity documents in our guides on FRC NADRA and NADRA Digital ID.
Overseas job offers without a licensed promoter or on a visit visa
For overseas jobs, ask for the licence number of the Overseas Employment Promoter and verify it on the website of the Bureau of Emigration & Overseas Employment. A job offered on a tourist or visit visa, or an agent who refuses to give a written contract, is a major red flag. Browse real opportunities in our overseas jobs category.
The "company" has no real office and the offer letter looks poor
Fake offer letters often have spelling mistakes, no office address, no landline number and a signature without a name. If the "company" refuses an office visit or only does online "interviews" on WhatsApp, do not trust it.
Real vs Fake Job Advertisement
| Point | Real Job Ad | Fake Job Ad |
|---|---|---|
| Fee | Only official application/test fee through bank challan or portal | Registration, security or "file" fee to a person |
| Source | Newspaper and official website | Only WhatsApp or Facebook |
| Official domain (.gov.pk or company domain) | Gmail / Yahoo | |
| Details | Ad number, qualification, age, last date | Vague, no last date |
| Selection | Test, interview and merit | "Guaranteed job" |
| Salary | As per pay scale | Unrealistically high |
How to Verify a Job Advertisement Before You Apply
- Search the same advertisement on the official website of the department or company.
- Check the advertisement number, last date and the application method.
- Confirm the fee account title and that the bank or portal belongs to the department or its testing service.
- Call the official landline of the department, not the number given in a forwarded message.
- For overseas jobs, verify the promoter's licence on the Bureau of Emigration & Overseas Employment website.
- Ask someone you trust or contact us on our contact page if you are unsure.
What to Do If You Already Paid or Shared Your Documents
- Stop all further payments and do not send more documents.
- Save screenshots, receipts, chat history, phone numbers and account details as proof.
- Inform your bank or wallet provider immediately and ask them to block or trace the transaction.
- Change the passwords of your email, social media and banking apps if you shared any login information.
- Report the fraud to the cybercrime authorities. Cybercrime complaints in Pakistan are now handled by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), and you can also report on the FIA helpline 1991.
- For overseas job fraud, also report to the FIA Anti-Human Trafficking Circle or the Bureau of Emigration.

Final Words
Fake job ads work only when you are in a hurry. Slow down, verify the source, never pay a person, and never share OTPs or passwords. Once your ad is verified, keep your documents ready: make a professional CV, prepare a correct passport size photo, and check your domicile certificate requirements (or learn how to change domicile if needed). For jobs that require clearance, see how to get a police character certificate.
